Monthelie Premier Cru 'Les Champs Fulliot'

“Picturesquely nestled against the rounded hillside like the head of Saint John in the shoulder of Christ, Monthélie looks like a Tuscan village” wrote Pierre Poupon. In 855 or 865, the name of this village is noted in the Cartulaire de Saint-Symphorien d’Autun: “in Montelio” meaning “on the small mountain”. Thirty years ago, the plot ‘Les Champs Fulliot’ was occupied by quarries and a field. ‘Fulliot’ is probably derived from the Old French ‘Feuille’ ‘Bois Fourré’.

Light, clean and refreshing, this is a fragrant, gentle wine with a magical touch. The colour is pale crimson, and the rose petal and raspberry tones are enchanting. Drinking now, this is a fascinating, feather-light Pinot that shows a side to this noble grape variety that we rarely see these days.
