Volnay

Volnay, the finest red wine of the Côte de Beaune, is a feminine, suave and subtle wine. This village, high up on the Côte de Beaune, is narrow and sloping, leaving all its space to the vines. Volnay is leaning against the small mountain of Chaignot. This vineyard has been developed for centuries. The Knights of Malta, the abbeys of Saint-Andoche d’Autun and Maizières, the ducal and then royal domains harvested it well before the Revolution.

OUR VINTAGES

2021

Tasting notes: The colour is intense and sustained with ruby highlights. The nose reveals toasty but rich black fruit aromas associated with a delicate woodiness. On the palate, the wine is dense with a tannic structure. This power on the palate could benefit from a few more years of ageing to soften the tannins.

Ageing potential: 5 to 15 years
Serving temperature: 16 to 18°C

This is a textbook Volnay with clean, refreshing, open fruit, and it is clear from the lifted, aromatically perfect nose that this is an accurate and engaging wine. There is a nice counterpoint between the cherry-themed fruit’s wildness and the composure on the finish. Forward and kindly, this is a delightful village Volnay.
